Hotels and lodging

The IGLA+ 2027 organising committee is currently working to arrange discounts for IGLA+ 2027 participants at several hotels, conveniently located downtown. More details will be communicated as soon as they become available.

In addition to hotels, short-term rentals (Airbnb, VRBO, etc) are authorised in Montreal during the summer months. Before reserving, make sure that your rental has a registration number displayed directly in the listing. To verify the registration, you can enter the registration number or the address on the Québec government’s Directory of registered tourist accommodations (only available in French).

Getting around

A brief guide to public transit in Montréal

Montreal has an extensive and reliable public transportation network, including the metro, a bus system, river shuttles, and a light rail train (the REM). Some key information about public transit is presented below:

  • In Montreal, you must have a physical ticket to use public transit. It is not possible to tap to pay, nor use your phone to pay. You must have a physical ticket. Most machines that distribute these tickets require you to have your physical credit/debit card.
  • Tickets are sold inside of metro stations, as well as a number of pharmacies and dépanneurs (corner stores).
  • Montreal’s fare system is divided into four zones. If you are staying on the island of Montreal, you will require a zone A ticket. If you are staying in Laval (Cartier, De la Concorde and Montmorency stations) or Longueuil (Longueuil-Université-de-Sherbrooke station), you will require a zone AB ticket, which is more expensive. If you are in any other suburb, you will require a zone C or D ticket, depending on the town.
  • Depending on when your competition takes place, it’s recommended to get either a 3 day pass, a weekly pass, or a pack of 10 tickets.
    • If you choose the weekly pass, note that it is valid from Monday to Sunday, and not 7 days from the day you buy it
    • More information concerning the different fares is available on the STM’s website.
  • From July 30 - August 1, Osheaga, a major music festival will be taking place at Jean-Drapeau. Therefore, you can expect larger crowds in the metro. You are encouraged to buy your return ticket beforehand to avoid long wait times when leaving Parc Jean-Drapeau.

Getting to and from Parc Jean-Drapeau

Using the metro, head towards Berri-UQAM station, accessible from the green line and orange line of the metro. Get off at Berri-UQAM, and follow the signs for the yellow line, indicated by the name of the terminus station, Longueuil-Université-de-Sherbrooke. From there, it’s just one stop to Jean-Drapeau. When you get off at Jean-Drapeau, volunteers and signage will help you find your way to the place you need to be.

Getting to and from the Montreal airport

Using public transit:

The Montreal airport is located about 15 kilometres from downtown Montreal. At the moment of writing, the most efficient way to get from the airport to downtown Montreal is with the 747 bus. The bus costs $11.25 and must be paid for in cash or with a valid pass. A list of valid passes is available on the STM’s website here.

The bus ride generally lasts 20-25 minutes. All buses will stop at Lionel-Groulx metro station, which is connected to the green and orange lines of the metro. Additionally, some buses will carry on through downtown until Berri-UQAM, stopping near major hotels along the way.

On your way back to the Montreal airport, plan to arrive at the airport 2-3 hours in advance. In the summer, due to construction currently underway, major backups can occur. Therefore, it is recommended to go with the 747 bus, or leave yourself plenty of time if you take an uber or cab.

Using a taxi or rideshare

The Montreal airport is easily accessible by taxi or rideshare (Uber and Lyft). Ensure that you only take an authorised taxi by heading to door 23 on the arrivals level when you arrive at the airport.

Taxis (but not rideshares) offer a fixed rate from the airport to downtown Montreal. This rate is $49.45 during the day and $56.70 at night. More information concerning taxi rates can be found on the Montreal airport’s website.
